bellver schloss

Built to house the royal court of Jaime II of Mallorca, its structure combines the needs of the palace with defensive elements. Bellver has a circular plan design with round towers also attached to it. The main tower is connected to the central body by an escape passage.

Bellver Castle has both a circular wall and a courtyard. The circular courtyard has a fountain in the center above the cistern to store water underground. There is a moat around the castle and the keep, and the stylized Gothic windows in the castle walls are also very impressive.

It is impressive to enter the central courtyard, surrounded by a beautiful gallery with Gothic arches. The palace is divided into two floors around the central courtyard, with different rooms, where today some rooms are open to the public, such as the old kitchens, where a model of the Bellver Hill is exhibited, or the museum.

This is what we found in the castle:

Basement: courtyard and museum of the city’s history.

Noble floor: Chapel of San Marcos, Hall of Jovellanos, Throne Room, Kitchen and Despuig Collection of Classical Sculpture.

Terrace: from here we have the best panoramic view of the city and its bay, as well as the interior.

In Bellver you can visit the Historical Museum of the city, with an exhibition about the history of Palma de Mallorca from the Bronze Age and the first settlers until today. It is an interesting tour through several rooms arranged chronologically.
